Overview
Children available: Infants/Newborns are available for those wishing to adopt privately. This is most often done through an open adoption, which makes all family and medical history of the child available and encourages constructive relationship between birthmother and adoptive parents in the best interest of the child. Children belonging to all types of ethnic and racial backgrounds are available. Many children are available through the US Foster Care System. These children have often been removed from their birthparents due to neglect and/or abuse. Siblings and children of all ages and ethnic backgrounds are available. Adoption through the Foster Care system is free of charge and often subsidies to continue helping the children, even after adoption, are available.

Timeline : The waiting time for a private adoption varies from case to case It can generally take 18-24 months to be matched with a birthmother for a private infant adoption. In the case of parents ready to adopt a child of any race or with expected medical issues, the matching time can be quicker.
Singles and couples wishing to adopt through the US Foster Care System will attend several educational classes, and then work with a social worker to be matched with an available child/sibling-set.
Travel: Travel is dependant on the residing state of the adoptive parent and the child being adopted. Adoptive parents may choose to arrive prior to the birth of their child and may be required to stay in the state of birth for about 7- 10 days.
