| Overview |
The Lesotho Adoption Program is a small program. It is unique in that the government of Lesotho has chosen a single adoption agency in each of 4 countries to place waiting children. The countries are US, Canada, Sweden & Netherlands. In the US, the chosen adoption agency is Americans for African Adoption.
Children Available:
The children available for adoption are primarily between the ages of 1-6 years of age. There are many children in good health available, as well as children with special needs. Families choose a child's gender, health, and approximate age; the Government of Lesotho then matches the family to a child residing in an orphanage.
Parent Qualifications:
Married Couples, as well as single women may adopt from Lesotho. There are no set age requirements for adoptive families.
Travel:
Approximately 2 weeks of travel are required. Families will travel through Johannesburg, over to Lesotho to meet the AFAA/Lesotho representative and government official, along with orphanage staff and to meet their child. Families need to plan a week in Lesotho and a week in Johannesburg to process their child's US medical exam and US visa.
