| Overview |
Morocco is located in Northern Africa, bordering the North Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. The Moroccan government requires that all prospective parents must be employed and must be Muslim or willing to convert to Islam. Morocco is a non-Hague convention country. As of this writing (May 2010) this is a very new program.
Children Available:
The children who are referred for adoption from Morocco are generally aged 4 weeks of age and up. Sibling sets and older children are also in need of forever families. Children with minor correctable special needs are readily available to be referred to approved families. Families may also adopt unrelated children.
Parent Qualifications:
Married couples and single women may adopt from Morocco. The country does not permit same sex marriage, partners or single men to adopt children from Morocco. There is no age restriction on the prospective parents. The prospective parents must be employed and must be Muslim or willing to convert to Islam. All prospective applicants to this program will be required by the Moroccan government and court to submit to conversion of Islam in the presence of a court notary while in the country prior to the court proceedings.
Travel:
If married, both parents must travel. Two to three trips of one-two weeks are required.
Timeline:
The wait for a referral can vary between 1-3 months for a boy and 9-12 months for a girl, from the date of your dossier submission and approval (As of May 2010). Travel can be several weeks to months after that, as this is a new and developing program.
Tips:To get started, please read the RainbowKids Adoption Guide (left menu) first. The next step is to contact and compare agencies. You may easily do this by using the Contact Wizard on our website. Receiving feedback about agencies from an online discussion group is always helpful as well. Finally, when you bring your child home, be sure and send your story to RainbowKids. We love hearing from proud new families!
