An advocacy camp IN CHINA that connects kids with families
Connect for Kids is a week-long program that connects institutionalized children (ages 6-13) with volunteers who commit to serving as advocates in helping them find a family. As a volunteer of Connect for Kids, you will travel as a group to China and spend time getting to know children who are eligible for adoption, but who are still waiting in the system.
Throughout the week, you will engage in fun and interesting activities with the children, providing a chance to get to know these children beyond the medical paperwork that tends to define them. This advocacy program is an opportunity to open the door to a permanent family as well as a fun-filled, week-long pause from the institutional routine. For most children, it may be the first time they’ve taken in the sights and sounds of their community, outside orphanage walls.
Connect for Kids is also an alternative to a traditional hosting program. Unlike a hosting program, Connect for Kids children do not travel to the U.S.—but volunteers travel to China as part of a well-organized and structured group, with an emphasis on the needs of the child. While the children’s daily schedules will be new and different for the week-long program, they will remain in the comfort of their home country speaking their language.
