Whether you have dealt with numerous adoptions, or it is a new experience for you, we hope to provide you with important information that will impact the way you practice moving forward.

If you already know you want to adopt from foster care, we recommend you attend a Foster Care Orientation Session instead. This workshop gives you a toolkit for planning your family’s pivotal birth country visit. We help families prepare for a return trip to China, Vietnam and Cambodia.   Learn to prepare for practical and the emotional angle and how those intertwine.  The session covers emotional preparation, practical considerations, cultural caveats; rich resources and helps turn your trip ideas from the abstract to reality. 

Here is a sampling of questions addressed:

Beauty of Black Girls Round Table

We are hosting a round table discussion in Saint Paul, MN to promote an open dialogue about the beauty of black girls and women and how this beauty is portrayed within society. We will discuss promoting self-confidence, empowering young black girls and women, challenging traditional beauty standards within America and more. Our panel will discuss the types of conversations that took place in their families and communities and what your family can do to support your black daughter.

Following the Round Table, there will be a question and answer session, as well as a wine and cheese reception where you will have an opportunity to talk with the panelists.

PANELISTS:

  • Hamila Aden, the first Somali-American woman to compete for the title of Miss Minnesota USA
  • Shawtan Powell, Founder of Girls are Powerful

INTENDED AUDIENCE:

  • all parents and caregivers of black children (including adoptive or foster parents)
