Often times, when we think about orphan children around the world, a precious little infant, in a crib, all alone is envisioned. While there are many infants in need of a loving family, it is the older children who are often forgotten. Orphanages are overflowing with school-aged children, and especially teens in need of a family to open their hearts and homes.
Fifteen year old, Olga had an opportunity to experience life in a family when she participated in an orphan host program in Dallas, Texas this summer. Olga’s host family described her as “extremely bright with a great willingness to learn and to be helpful”. They also observed that she is “like a human sponge, watching everything, wanting to learn and picking up many English words and using them correctly while in the United States. She is very affectionate, a joy to be around.”
As Olga nears her next birthday, the window of opportunity for her to be adopted internationally will close. In order for this bright, creative teen to be adopted, a family that is paper-ready for Eastern Europe must be found before her sixteenth birthday, this September.
There are many teens just like Olga who will soon be released from their orphanages, the only “home” they have ever known to face life on their own for the first time—without the guidance or care of a mother and father.
